Can I finance my studies with BaföG?

Compared to other European countries, university fees in Germany are quite low. For many students, the issue is rather how to finance living costs, since they do not earn a salary when studying. The website study in Germany gives you useful information about the costs you face when living in Germany. It depends of course on the city where you live, but generally, a student needs around 850 Euros per month. As of January 2020, international students need to have at least 10,236 Euros blocked in a bank account to get their student visa. 

BaföG can be an attractive opportunity for many students, but you can also look into scholarships.

BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz, or Federal Training Assistance Act) is a German state program that provides funding for school and university students who want to pursue education but cannot afford it.

Information about BaföG for refugee students can be found on study in Germany's website, while more detailed information on how to apply and the amount of funding available can be found on the Berlin Studierendenwerk's website.

Unfortunately, there is no possibility of receiving BaföG while studying with Kiron, since Kiron is not a university.  

However, it is possible to receive BaföG while studying in a degree program or at a Studienkolleg. More information (in German) can be found with BaföG-Rechner. Students participating in language courses that are specifically preparatory for studies (Test DaF/DSH preparation courses) are also eligible for BAföG.
