Generally, the language level needed to start a degree program in Germany is a C1 German certificate. Some universities accept students with a B2-certificate at the time of application but on the condition that they can present a C1-certificate when their studies begin or after the first semester. Some universities also invite students to take the test at the university once they’ve been admitted to the program.
For English-speaking programs, in most cases, a C1 English certificate is required. In some rare cases, a B2 level of English is enough. However, to study successfully, we recommend C1 English language skills.
Always check with the university you are interested in to see what their language requirements are. If you need advice and support on finding a language course, please check the Language School section in the Help Center and on Kiron Campus.
Kiron produced webinars explaining in detail the requirements to study at a university in Germany. You can watch them below.
